Robert Finley, ARCM, is an experienced piano teacher and has taught students the piano in the UK and USA. He enjoys teaching very much and gains much satisfaction from seeing his students playing musically and developing a love for music.
He chooses music for his students that they will enjoy playing while challenging them, but within the student's capability. He shows them how to make the piano sing, with proper shaping of the melodic line, phrasing, and balancing the melody against the accompaniment. He shows them the importance of rhythm in music and the need to listen carefully while playing, especially when applying the sustaining pedal. He explains the background of the composer, the style of the music, and rudiments of theory.
He helps his students solve technical problems with by employing proper hand position, posture at the piano, relaxation, and attention to correct fingering. He guides them how to isolate problems in a piece and to overcome them with simple exercises to achieve fluency and ease of execution.
He is very patient and enourages the student to practice and obtain good results from their playing.
